When creating content on TikTok, you must be careful with what you say and do. TikTok will remove any content that violates their Community Guidelines, this could mean any videos, audios, live streams, images, comments, and links. They will even temporarily ban accounts or users that repeat violations, this is scary territory! You don't want to be a repeater in violating their guidelines, this could harm your flow of the audience. To guide you through what NOT to do, keep reading.

Don't make a buck on something you didn't create!

Copyright can be tricky, this could pose problems with music or videos within in your video if you are making a profit. You are welcome to use any sounds within TikTok, the platform actually encourages that process. They also encourage everyone to create content and share it for others to see but any content that infringes someone else's intellectual property rights is prohibited on TikTok and will be removed if the platform becomes aware of it.

Do not post, upload, stream, or share:

  • Content that violates or infringes someone else's copyrights, trademarks, or other intellectual property rights

Be careful how much you share about a person!

TikTok does not allow content that violates the confidentiality of personal data or personally identifiable information (e.g., social security information, phone numbers, physical addresses). They will remove content that depicts personal data or personally identifiable information (PII) from the platform. This could mean if you are relaying a client experience, be sure not to add any names that could possibly flag the platform as depicting personal data. You can avoid this by using pronouns (he, she, him, her, them, and they) when describing the client and being careful to not share any personal data from that experience.

Do not post, upload, stream, or share:

  • Content that contains personal data or personally identifiable information (PII)

Is this a scam?

If you are a real estate agent, loan officer, or in another line of business where you may be encouraging your audience to take action on investment or something of the sort, you will want to tread lightly. TikTok could flag your content. The TikTok platform was made to be authentic, so it may be helpful to approach TikTok differently than you would Instagram Facebook or LinkedIn. All these social platforms are sisters, not twins! You may want to give 30-second tips or relate a client experience instead of approaching it with a marketing stance.

Do not post, upload, stream, or share:

  • Content that promotes phishing

  • Content that promotes Ponzi, multi-level marketing, or pyramid schemes

  • Content that promotes investment schemes with the promise of high returns, fixed betting, or any other types of scams
